Quarter C

Quarter C is located closest to the lake; in ancient times, in fact, the distance from the shore was less than 50 m. The area was used as a burial ground during the eight and seventh centuries B.C.; at the end of the seventh century B.C. dwellings began to be built. Among them, the house located at the center of the quarter stands out for its larger size. The discovery of iron dross a short distance from the built-up area leads us to believe that the furnaces were used for metalwork, which required the use of water. The quarter was probably home to the ironworkers, while the largest dwelling may have been the superintendent’s home. A portion of road, up to 4 meter wide in certain sections and also used in Roman times, was found along the eastern side of the quarter.
