The old woodworking shop was created to document the work, the implements and the meaning of a world (now nearly forgotten) made of toil, commitment, skill and industry.
Tools, implements, utensils and machines all come from a single location, an old shop in Gerfalco (Montieri) where from the end of the 1800s to1990, five generations of the Forgeschi family practiced the woodworking craft.
The simple, basic, old tools and implements reflect the craftsman’s intelligence, imagination and creativity; the early, suggestive machines (a plane and a saw) give a glimpse of the transition between wholly handmade joinery and the faster pace dictated by new Industrial Revolution technology.
This workshop-museum showcases human and cultural values for new generations and pays homage to the ancient craft of woodworking and to all crafts in general.
We thank the Tuscany Region for its help in supporting this initiative. A special thank you to Lido Santini (a Massa Marittima woodworker) who handled the gathering of material and the museum display.
